See a doctor at Hoag? Check the network first

Newport Beach is home to Hoag's main hospital campus, and many local residents have long relationships with doctors there. When you choose a Medicare plan, the first question should be whether those doctors work with it.

Which hospitals and medical groups a plan works with can change from one year to the next. I check your specific doctors against each plan I show you, so you can decide with the facts in front of you instead of finding out after you enroll.

Before we talk about premiums or extras, I check whether your doctors and their medical groups work with each plan available at your address.

Common questions

Medicare questions from Newport Beach residents

I see doctors at Hoag. How do I make sure I can keep them?

Every plan decides its own network, and that can change each year, so there isn't one answer for every plan. I look up your doctors and your preferred hospital under each plan I show you. Some options, like Original Medicare with a Medigap plan, don't use a network at all and work with providers that accept Medicare.

What if my plan's network is changing next year?

Your plan has to tell you in writing each fall. If it affects your doctors, Annual Enrollment (October 15 to December 7) is the time to look at other plans. Changes start January 1.

Is a PPO or an HMO better if I want more choice of doctors?

PPO plans usually give you more freedom to see providers outside a network, often at a higher cost. HMOs usually cost less but keep you inside a network. Which one fits depends on your doctors and your budget, and I can show you both.

Do all plans work with Hoag?

No, and it changes from year to year. I check the specific doctor and medical group for each plan I review, not just the hospital name.

I travel a lot or split my year between homes. What should I know?

Networks and coverage while traveling differ by plan type. Tell me where you spend your time and I'll review which options fit.

What does it cost to work with you?

Nothing. The insurance company pays me a commission, not you, so your premium is the same whether you enroll through me or directly with Medicare. There's no fee for a consultation, a plan review, or the yearly check-in.
