More choice of doctors: your options
Costa Mesa is next door to Newport Beach, where Hoag's main hospital is located, and many residents want a plan that keeps them close to the doctors they already know.
If keeping your doctors is the priority, the type of plan you choose matters as much as the carrier. I explain the trade-offs between plan types and show you the options available where you live.
Your doctors may be spread across Costa Mesa, Newport Beach and Irvine, so the first thing I check is whether those offices, and the medical groups behind them, work with the plan. We can talk by phone, by video, or at one of my workshops in Mission Viejo.
Got a letter from Hoag? Hoag has told patients that its contract with one Medicare Advantage HMO ends December 31, 2026. See what it means and your options before December 7 →

Medicare questions from Costa Mesa residents
Which Medicare options give me the widest choice of doctors?
Original Medicare with a Medigap plan usually lets you see any provider that accepts Medicare, so there's no network to worry about. The trade-off is a monthly premium. Medicare Advantage plans often cost less each month but use a network. I'll walk you through both.
My plan is changing and I got a letter. What now?
That's most likely your Annual Notice of Change. Plans send them every fall. Look it over before the December 7 deadline, and I'm happy to go through it with you and review your other options at no cost.
Can I do this by phone or video?
Yes. We can talk by phone, by video, or in person, and family members are welcome to join.
I see doctors in more than one city. Does that matter?
Yes. In California, Medicare Advantage HMO plans are often tied to a medical group, not just a city. I check each of your doctors against the plan before you enroll, so you know who is in and who is out.
I'm still working at 65. Do I need to enroll right away?
It depends on whether your employer coverage counts and how large the employer is. I'll go through your situation with you so you don't pay a late penalty by mistake.
What does it cost to work with you?
Nothing. The insurance company pays me a commission, not you, so your premium is the same whether you enroll through me or directly with Medicare. There's no fee for a consultation, a plan review, or the yearly check-in.
